With profound sadness and immense gratitude for his service, the entire Ontario Table Tennis Association (OTTA) community mourns the passing of our beloved President, Attila Mosonyi, who passed away recently in Waterloo.
Attila was far more than a President; he was the steady heartbeat of table tennis in Ontario. His journey was one of total dedication, serving as the President of the OTTA since 2011, following seven formative years as the organization’s dedicated Secretary. His passion was also felt at the local level, where he was a champion as the President of the Top Spin Waterloo Kitchener TTC.
The years Attila led the OTTA were golden years for our sport. Through his visionary yet grounded leadership, the province saw an incredible surge in activity:
- Community Building: He oversaw a massive expansion, with countless new clubs blooming and existing facilities receiving crucial improvements.
- A Focus on Excellence: Attila tirelessly worked to establish a strong network of high-performance centers, providing our rising stars with the resources they needed to chase their dreams.
- Raising Our Profile: The regular organization of prestigious international and national events brought excitement and attention to table tennis, showcasing the growth he helped cultivate.
Attila’s character was his greatest strength. He approached every challenge and decision with a style that was refreshingly neutral, simple, and inherently fair. He earned the respect of everyone who crossed his path because he was always, without fail, genuinely ready to help and support any member, player, or club in need.
We also recognize his important national contributions, having served on the Table Tennis Canada (TTCAN) Board of Directors from 2019 to 2023.
Attila Mosonyi leaves behind a legacy of growth, fairness, and tireless dedication—a foundation upon which the future of Ontario table tennis is built. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire us.
