Thank you for your patience and for bringing an important issue to our attention. We have received valuable feedback from several coaches and parents regarding the ORL (Ontario Ranking List) following the WTT Youth Contender Mississauga event.

Upon review, we found that a significant number of players were awarded an unusually high number of points. This increase was a direct result of two factors:

A) A substantial increase in the overall number of players on the World Ranking List (WRL). B) A large number of Ontario-based players being included on the WRL due to the event being held in Ontario.

As a consequence, many players surpassed the previously established percentage-based thresholds for ranking levels. To ensure fairness and maintain the integrity of the ORL, we are implementing the following changes, effective immediately:

  • A) Ranking Points by Age Category: To provide a more accurate representation of a player’s standing within their peer group, a player’s ranking will now count only within their specific age category.
  • B) Updated Ranking Thresholds: The thresholds for ranking levels have been adjusted to reflect the current competitive landscape. The new percentages are as follows:
    • Elite: 5%
    • International: 10%
    • Continental: 33%
    • Provincial: 66%

We sincerely appreciate those who pointed out this oversight. This was a true “Team Effort,” and your feedback is crucial for us to maintain an accurate and equitable ranking system for all players.

Thank you for your understanding.
