WOMEN

Team Qualification

The Canadian women’s team did not qualify for the Olympic Games team event. There may still be a slim chance to qualify at the 2024 WTTTC (16-25 February 2023) based on results and ITTF team ranking (March 2024).

Singles qualification

There are 4 stages to the women singles qualification as follows:

1. Canadian Qualification

2. North American qualification (not needed)

3. Pan American qualification

4. Final World qualification  (will NOT be held)

5. ITTF Ranking

  • Because the USA already qualified a women’s team, and the top 2 from the USA team by ITTF ranking are also qualified for the singles, there will be no need for a North American qualification.
  • The Canadian qualification (trials) will be held on 29-30 March 2024 in St, Leonard, QC (Montreal).┬áThe exact date will be announced as soon as confirmed.
  • All women Canadian Citizens from the latest available Senior National Team list (SR NT) will be invited to participate in the trials.
  • Any eligible woman (Canadian Citizen) with a Rating of 1600 or more (March 2024 Rating list) can enter the qualification tournament.
  • Each province/territory has the option to enter one additional woman regardless of her rating level.
  • Non-SR National Team women will play in a pre-qualification event (1st day), while the SR NT women will be directly entered in the final qualification stage  (2nd and 3rd day).
  • The top 2 from the Canadian Trials will be entered in the Pan American qualification tournament to be held in Lima, Peru, on 14-18 May, 2024.
  • The top 4 from the Pan Am Qualification will be directly qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games. The USA and Brazil have already qualified for the Olympics, so they will not take part in the Pan Am qualification event.
  • A 5th woman player from the Pan American region will be selected by the ITTF based on ITTF ranking.
  • There will be up to 15 additional women selected by the ITTF world-wide based on the week-25 World Ranking (18 June 2024).

NOTE: if the Canadian women’s team qualifies for the Olympic Games through the WTTTC in February in Busan, Korea, then the above process will not apply, and the selection will be the same as for the men (see below).
