The 2025 FISU WORLD UNIVERSITY SUMMER GAMES will be held on 16-27 July 2025 in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany.

ELIGIBILITY:

Only the following may participate as athletes in the FISU World University Games:

  1. Students who are currently (2024-24 academic year) officially registered as proceeding towards a degree or diploma at the university or similar institute, the status of which is recognized by the appropriate national academic authority of their country;
  2. Former students of the institutions mentioned in a) who have obtained their academic degree or diploma in the calendar year preceding the event (2024).

Nationality and age restriction:

All athletes must satisfy the following conditions:

  • be a national of the country they represent (have a Canadian Passport);
  • be at least 18 and no older than 25 years of age on 31 December of the year of the event (2025) (i.e. born between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2007).
  • Athletes participating in FISU sport events must represent the same country as in their respective International Federation events. Changes of sport nationality must follow respective IF rules.

SELECTION:

  • 5 men, 5 women, 2 coaches
  • Players must appear as active in the Canadian Ratings in the period January-April 2025
  • The selection criteria will be established by the Athletes Commission
  • The selection will be announced in second half of April 2025.

EVENTS

Singles, Doubles, XD and Teams for each gender

FINANCES:

  • This is a self-funded event for the players.
  • The estimated cost per player including travel, meals and accommodation is a minimum of $5,000 per person.
  • TTCAN will cover the cost of the coaches but will not provide an honorarium.

CONDITIONS FOR CANADA’S PARTICIPATION

  • We need to receive a commitment of participation from at least 3 players to be able to enter the team events.
  • If we receive a commitment from only 2 players, we can still enter the singles and doubles
  • If we receive a commitment from only one player, we can enter the singles and request a doubles partner from another country.
  • If we receive a commitment from more than 5 players, then a selection will take place based on the criteria established by the Athletes Commission.
