Application Deadline: November 15, 2026
Ontario Table Tennis Association (OTTA) is inviting applications from female coaches interested in joining Team Ontario at the 2027 Canada Winter Games, taking place in Québec City, February 27 – March 14, 2027.
The table tennis competition is scheduled for February 28 – March 5, 2027.
Often described as the “Olympics for Canadian Youth,” the Canada Games are Canada’s premier national multisport event for developing athletes. The 2027 edition will feature 22 sports and approximately 3,500 athletes and coaches from across Canada, providing an Olympic-style experience and an important step toward future national and international competition.
Building on Ontario’s Success
At the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island, Ontario finished as the overall winner in table tennis, delivering an outstanding performance across the competition.
The team was led by Head Coach Hongtao Chen, who will return to lead Team Ontario at the 2027 Games.
The selected female Assistant Coach will work alongside Hongtao Chen in preparing and supporting Ontario’s athletes, with the goal of building on the province’s strong competitive tradition.
This is an excellent opportunity for a developing coach to gain valuable experience at a major national multisport event while contributing to Ontario’s high-performance table tennis program.
Minimum Coaching Requirements
Applicants must achieve at least NCCP Competition Development – Trained status.
The required training includes:
-
Sport-specific Competition Development training
-
Make Ethical Decisions (MED)
-
Safe Sport training
The required NCCP status must be achieved by November 15, 2026.
Alternative Pathway: Competition Development Challenge
Female coaches who have completed NCCP Introduction to Competition but have not yet attended Competition Development courses may pursue the Competition Development Challenge pathway.
The Challenge allows eligible coaches to demonstrate their coaching competencies through an individual, one-on-one evaluation without attending the regular Competition Development courses.
Coaches who have not yet achieved Competition Development Trained status are encouraged to apply, provided they are prepared to complete the necessary requirements by the certification deadline.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Preference may be given to coaches who are actively involved in Ontario-sanctioned table tennis competitions, demonstrating ongoing engagement with competitive athletes and the provincial competition system.
Expectations and Responsibilities
The selected Assistant Coach is expected to participate in the entire Team Ontario preparation program, including:
-
Canada Winter Games: Attend the Games and work alongside Head Coach Hongtao Chen in supporting Ontario athletes during training and competition.
-

-
Team Building: Participate in team-building and preparation activities organized by the Ontario Ministry of Sport.
