Ontario Table Tennis is incredibly proud to announce that two of our bright young talents, Olivia Ziyi Wang (True North) and Daniel Leung (Three 10), are currently in Sheffield, United Kingdom, where they will represent Canada at the prestigious World Hopes Week and Challenge!
Both athletes earned their spots through impressive performances earlier this year:
- Olivia and Daniel were victorious at the U13 Selection Tournament organized in Mississauga from April 25-27.
- Following the selection, Olivia was the champion at the Hopes Week Americas.
- Daniel earned his place through his strong effort at the training camp and his excellent results at the U13 Pan American Championships.
Olivia and Daniel will train alongside 39 other top-ranked boys and 39 girls from various countries around the world. The competition is fierce: only four players from each gender will earn a coveted spot on the official Hopes Team and secure an ITTF scholarship through the “With The Future in Mind” program.
The Hopes program is the ITTF’s most prestigious global talent identification initiative, running since 2009. It has successfully identified and supported many of the world’s current top players, including Hugo Calderano, Truls Moregård, Darko Jorgić, Bruna Takahashi, Adrián Díaz, and Hana Goda, among others.
