Ontario’s young female athletes made an outstanding opening statement in the team events at the 2026 Canadian Junior Championships, capturing gold medals in both the U19 and U15 Girls’ Team events alongside a hard-earned silver medal in the U13 division.

These stellar results kicked off Team Ontario’s championship campaign in style, highlighting the exceptional depth and talent across the provincial pipeline ahead of the boys’ team events and upcoming individual competitions.

U19 Girls Crowned National Champions

Ontario capped off its incredible run at the top with a championship performance in the U19 Girls’ Team event.

Coached by Zhenyi Lin (Three 10), the gold-medal squad featured Sunny Zhang (Three 10), Wendy Liu (Three 10), Amy Zhao (More Fun), and Olivia Ziyi Wang (True North).

The team advanced confidently to the final after defeating Quebec 3-0 in the semifinal. In the championship match against Manitoba, Ontario claimed a 3-1 victory. Sunny Zhang proved her class by finishing the competition without losing a game, making crucial, perfect back-to-back wins in every match against strong squads from Manitoba, British Columbia, and Alberta. Sunny and Olivia also combined to win the decisive doubles match in the final to secure the national championship.

U15 Girls Complete Perfect Tournament

Ontario’s U15 Girls Team delivered a flawless performance, finishing first in the five-team round robin with a perfect 4-0 record.

Coached by Raymond Zhang (Three 10), the championship team consisted of Cindy Zhu (Three 10), Amber Xihan Lin (Elite), Melissa Jia (Geng Academy), and Sophia Bai (True North).

Ontario defeated British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and concluded the competition with a convincing victory over Quebec, securing the national title. The squad posted a completely perfect score across the entire event—without dropping a single match, or even a single game throughout the tournament.

U13 Girls Earn National Silver

Ontario’s U13 Girls Team advanced to the championship match before falling 3-0 to Quebec, earning the national silver medal.

The team was coached by Shali Liu (Qi Hang Table Tennis Club) and featured Kexin Fan (Qi Hang), Emily Xin (SpinStar), Tiffany Zhan (Three 10), and Coco Zhang (CCTTA).

The final featured intense, hard-fought battles. After losing the first two singles matches 3-2, it was Emily Xin’s narrow 12-14 loss in the fifth game of her opening match that set the high-pressure tone for the rest of the tie. Throughout the event, the young Ontario squad demonstrated tremendous determination and composure, gaining valuable national-level experience while reaching the championship final.

Start for Junior Championships

With two national team titles and one silver medal in the girls’ events, Team Ontario has once again demonstrated the strength of its athlete development system. The results reflect the dedication of the athletes, coaches, clubs, and families whose collective efforts continue to keep Ontario at the forefront of junior table tennis in Canada.

The Canadian Junior Championships continue with the individual events, where Ontario’s athletes will look to build on an already impressive start to the tournament.
