Canada’s women’s and men’s teams both won bronze medals at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games.
On the women’s team, Ontario player Anqi Luo helped lead Canada to a perfect group stage, earning a spot in the quarter-finals. Canada beat Chile 3-1 to advance to the semi-finals, but ultimately lost to the USA (the eventual gold medalists) 3-0 in the semi-final round.
In the men’s competition, the Canadians finished second in their group, booking them a spot in the quarter-finals. Ontario player Eugene Wang helped lead the team to a 3-0 victory over Argentina, earning them a spot against the top seed Brazil in the semi-final. The men were unable to upset the Brazilians, losing 3-0.
Singles events begin on Wednesday, July 22. With Eugene Wang being the second seed in the men’s singles, and Anqi Luo the eighth seed for the women, there’s definitely the potential for Ontario gold.
